Obituary of Louis C. Lombardi

Please share a memory of Louis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Louis Lombardi was very much a man of his time. The third child of Italian immigrants, he began his life in Manhattan during the Great Depression. Seeking a better life, his family moved to the Bronx, where he attended public schools, met Jean - the love of his life, and lost his father at a young age. When war broke out in Korea, Louis answered his country’s call to serve. Like many Korean War veterans, Louis returned home, married, and attended Pace College. He and Jean started a family. They were the first of their relatives to leave the Bronx and buy a house in the suburbs. They settled in the Village of Ardsley, where they raised four children; Thomas, Patricia, Carol and John. They instilled in them the virtues of hard work, scholarship and thrift. Louis became an active member of the community, and worked hard to provide for his family. He saw all four of his children through college. They, in turn, moved on to successful careers, and blessed him with five grandchildren: Gregory, Matthew, Andrew, Owen and Isabel. The consummate salesman, Louis held numerous sales positions in the field of medical supplies and technology. This area of expertise enabled Louis to work full time until he finally decided to retire at the age of 67. Louis was a charming and generous host. While he loved and enjoyed the best things in life, nothing gave him more pleasure than the company of his family. When he was stricken with Alzheimer’s disease, he accepted his fate with grace. Louis is survived by Jean, his wife of 59 years; his 4 children; 5 grandchildren; and his brother Philip. He was by any measure a fine man, who built himself a wonderful life.
