Barbara Neebe Thompson, 85, beloved mother, grandmother and friend, died in the early hours of November 26th, 2016 of complications after a long battle with kidney failure. Barbara was born on March 10, 1931 in New York, New York, to Henry and Florence Neebe. She attended Riverdale Country Day School, and later Vassar College, graduating with the class of 1953. During her time at Vassar, she married Ernest Clark Thompson, and together they had four daughters, Victoria, Katherine, Sarah, and Penelope. She married her second husband, Clement E. Merowit, in 1993. Barbara worked for many years as a teacher, most recently at The Calhoun School on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, and was a longtime member of the Unitarian Church. She enjoyed traveling, volunteer work at the Hastings Historical Society, participation in a local literature club, and keeping up with family and old friends. She will be greatly missed. She is survived by her four daughters, eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. A remembrance gathering will be held at the Hastings Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 7th, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Barbara's name to the Hastings Historical Society.
