Joseph P. Camerino, PhD, retired District Superintendent from Oswego County Boces, and former Assistant Superintendent at Liverpool CS District passed away peacefully on May 25, 2017 at the Pines in Easton, Maryland. Joseph was also a resident of Baldwinsville, NY. Joseph was a graduate of Siena College and received his masters and doctorate degree from SUNY Albany in education administration, school finance and business. Dr. Camerino was the District Superintendent/Executive Officer for the Oswego County Board of Cooperative Educational Services. In this position he oversaw all Oswego BOCES programs. Prior to his appointment at Oswego BOCES, Dr. Camerino was the assistant superintendent for administrative services at the Liverpool (N.Y.) Central School District. While at Liverpool, he managed the district's $100 million budget and supervised the instructional support services, including the business office, maintenance, transportation and food service. Dr. Camerino has worked as a state aid planning specialist, where he prepared, coordinated, and presented workshops for some 225 school districts and their superintendents, school business officials and boards of education. Dr. Camerino is past president of the New York State Association of School Business Officials. He has served on the board of the directors of that organization since 1997. Joseph was the past board chair of the Scleroderma Foundation and his association with the Scleroderma Foundation was a result of his mother dying from the disease. Prior to being elected board chair, Dr. Camerino served the board as its treasurer. He also served on many other boards such as the Harness Horseman's Association, Syracuse City Audit Committee; was also a group leader for Sunshine Friends, a group that brings pets to local nursing homes and hospitals. just to name a few. Joseph was also very active with HAM radio emergency service and assisted in many community service projects both in Syracuse and Maryland. Joseph was an owner and driver of standard breed horses, raced at Vernon Downs, Monticello and other race tracks in New York. Joseph was kind-hearted, compassionate and enjoyed life to the fullest. He will be greatly missed by his colleagues, family, friends and relatives. The eldest son of the late John and Viola Camerino, Joseph is survived by his two brothers Thomas (Camille) Camerino and Patrick (Carolyn) Camerino, a nephew, Matthew and nieces, Kimberly, Amanda, Danielle; and his beloved and dearest friend, Theresa Lotito-Camerino. Friends may call at the Sinatra Memorial Home, 601 Yonkers Ave. Yonkers, NY 10704 on Wednesday from 3-7PM. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday at St. Anthony Church (Nepera Park) at 10am. Entombment at Ferncliff Cemetery to follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Scleroderma Foundation Research – Memory of Joseph P.
