John Catania

Obituary of John Catania

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

John Catania sadly passed at the age of 65. John was called “Johnny” by his family and “cat” by his friends. He grew up in Yonkers, NY with his parents, Anna and John Catania, and his three siblings. Johnny was a compassionate, loving and a bright person. He had a wonderful sense of humor, a penchant for rock music (especially the Beatles) and honor for his country, which he proudly served as a Marine. Out of all of his interests, one of his most precious things was his pride and joy: his 2006 Nissan Altima. He would obsess over it. Always checking the tire pressure, changing the oil more times than was required or obsessively washing and waxing the car till it was immaculate. The trunk was filled with more car care items than in an auto parts store. Johnny married once to the love of his life, Emily.  He belonged to various Veteran and Military organizations. Johnny worked for the US Postal Service for numerous years. He loved military history and was quite knowledgeable of any battle the United States was in. He could give anyone a run for their money in a trivia contest. He would bring up events or people from our past that we didn’t recall. Johnny was well liked by his neighbors and helped out other tenants by driving them to doctor appointments or picking up food for them.  He is survived by his three siblings, Frank, Anne and Anthony; as well as his brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephew, nieces, great nephews, great niece, great-great niece.

We loved him and are proud of him and will miss him dearly.

In the words of the immortal John Lennon: “In my life, I loved you all.”

Love you Johnny!
