Maria and I are First Cousins. Her mother, Giuseppina and my Father, Natale are Sister/Brother.
Because she is my American Cousin, my father made it a point to travel to Yonkers from Toronto to visit the Family.
It started at Willow Street and continued with Bennett Ave.
Since the mid 60's up to 2012, There were numerous trips made to Yonkers.
The central figure was always Maria and husband Antonio. She opened up her heart and her house to the Gianfelice Family. It was, and is, the central gathering place for Family to come together to share the good times and the bad. She would always add her thoughts to any situation.
Maria taught me how to iron when I was in my early 20's. The Deli meats were always plentiful. Staying with her and her family allowed me to get to see New York City. I also got to witness the growth and development of her Children. Over the many years of such experiences, she was truly a major influence on my life and the lives of all of those around her.
We are all going to miss her very much. We will always remember the influence she has had on a large number of people.
