In Memory of Murdel May Brown-Velasquez May 28, 1952 – February 26, 2025 Murdel May Brown was born on May 28, 1952, in Claremont, St. Ann, Jamaica to Christopher Brown and Elfreda Williams. Murdel lived a life full of love, laughter, and kindness. She was celebrated for her warm smile, gentle nature, and steadfast faith in the Lord. She received her early education at Claremont Elementary School and later attended Ferncourt High School in St. Ann's Jamaica. After relocating to the United States, Murdel continued her education in Westchester, New York. She dedicated 32 years of her career to the Hebrew Home for the Aged in Riverdale, NY, where she worked tirelessly and formed many lifelong friendships. Murdel found immense joy in serving the elderly, offering care and compassion to those in need. At the age of 20, Murdel made the life-changing decision to commit herself to the Lord. She became an active member of the Bible Church of Christ under the leadership of Bishop Bryant. Her devotion led her to serve faithfully on the usher board and in the street ministry. Later, she joined Yonkers Christian Assembly, where her faith continued to flourish. Murdel eventually moved from Mount Vernon to Yonkers, NY, alongside her late husband, Carlos Velasquez. After 20 years of service at Yonkers Chrisitian Assembly, she later became a member of Inner Faith Church in Yonkers, NY under Bishop Clayton Nelson. While at Inner Faith she later became head of the user board and part of the women's ministry and part of the street evangelism team. After retiring at the age 66, Murdel enjoyed all aspects of pursuing her passions. Murdel loved to read the bible and cook with the family. She loved to bake, knit and loved taking long walks with her neighborhood friends. Murdel's passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of her loved ones. She is survived by her mother, Elfreda Gibson; her loving sister, Olga Clay; and her brothers, Cassel and Rohan Brown, as well as Neville Gibson. Cherished by her family, Murdel is also mourned by her two sons, Delano Brown and Shaun Velasquez, her daughter, Christina Velasquez and her treasured grandchildren, Denaya, Isabella, Shaun JR and Sage Brown. In addition, she leaves behind a wide circle of family members and friends, all of whom were profoundly touched by her kindness, compassion and gentle spirit. Murdel is proceeded in death by her father Chistopher Brown, nephew Ricky
