Leonard J. (Hoppy) Canora, Sr., 92, of Yonkers, NY, passed away on Monday, March 31, 2025, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with family at his side.
He was born on October 15, 1932, in Yonkers, NY, to Antoinette DiBuno (Tolli) and Dominic Canora. He was raised by his mother and stepfather, Louis Tolli, all of whom predeceased him. On November 3, 1956, Leonard married the love of his life, Anna Canora (née Focarazzo), in Yonkers, NY. Together, they raised five children. Anna predeceased him in January 2023, and he is now reunited with her in heaven.
Leonard worked as a car salesman for many years before purchasing Parkview Lincoln-Mercury in 1975, which he then renamed Park Lincoln Mercury. Under his leadership, the business flourished, and he built lasting friendships with colleagues and customers alike. In 2000, Leonard made a significant move to Mahopac, NY, where he became a Ford dealer. The business continues to operate today in its 25th year as Park Ford of Mahopac.
From September 1952 to September 1954, Leonard served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He received Korean Service Medals with two Bronze Service Stars, the Combat Infantry Badge, the U.S. Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal in recognition of his service.
Leonard was known for his giving nature and calm presence. He was the best Dad to his five children and the best Poppy to his twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His generosity was well known by all who had the privilege of knowing him, especially his family. He cherished spending winters in Dania Beach, Florida, and summers in Brigantine, NJ, surrounded by his entire family. He also loved traveling the world with Anna, creating beautiful memories together.
Leonard is survived by his five children: Patricia Amendola, Donna D’Andrea (Richard), Robert Canora (Joanne), Leonard Canora, Jr. (Tonianne), and Lisa Gagliardi (Anthony). He also leaves behind eleven grandchildren: Richard D'Andrea Jr. (Carolyn), Danielle Blais (Alain), Leonard Joseph III, Nicholas D’Andrea, John Amendola (Elizabeth), Michael Amendola, Nicole Connell (Kevin), Thomas D’Andrea (Kayla), Lianna Gagliardi, Devon Canora, and Andrew Canora, as well as two great-grandsons, Douglas Mark and Giovanni Amendola. Leonard is also survived by four step granddaughters and twelve step great grandchildren. Leonard was predeceased by his grandson, Joseph Canora, and his son-in-law, John R. Amendola.
Leonard’s love and kindness will live on in our hearts forever. We will never forget the warmth and generosity he shared with his family and all who knew him
