Obituary of Edmond V. Petre
Please share a memory of Edmond to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Edmond Petre was born in White Plains and raised in Armonk, where he eventually raised his own family alongside his wife of almost 60 years, Waltraud Petre. They raised three sons, Jeffrey, Manfred, and Timothy, who all took after their father in different ways. Jeffrey developed a love of architecture and design like his father, who built the family home on Skyview Drive. Manfred took over the family business, Petre Glass and Mirror, where he continued his father’s legacy of working with his hands and running a successful business. Timothy had a love of cars, both old and new, often using his father’s old cars as his own.
Edmond had a passion for planes, even using the money he received from the GI Bill to get his pilot’s license. He would spontaneously fly his family out to Block Island for the day to eat seafood and go to the beach and, in later years, he opened Albatross Aviation to fix old or broken planes.
It wasn’t just planes he loved. He would come home with gifts for his sons like the boat they would take out jet skiing on Candlewood Lake in the summer or the go-kart he and the boys took racing on 684 while it was under construction.
He also loved his wife fiercely. They met when he was stationed in Germany with the army and fell in love. Both loved Germany and the small town she was from, Neuses, and her family who treated him like a king whenever they returned.
Edmond is predeceased by his wife Waltraud, his son Timothy, and his grandson Gregory, all of whom he loved with all his heart. His family, Jeffrey, Susan, Holly, Manfred, Claudia, Matthew, Kimberly, Luca, and Leo remain to carry on his legacy.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 from 9:30 - 11:00 AM, followed by a prayer service. Burial will take place at Middle Patent Cemetery.
