Emelina Corripio sadly passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2025, in Bronxville, New York. Mely, as many of her family and friends called her, was born to Spanish immigrants Maria Baliño and Ramon Castro on October 27, 1940, in Havana, Cuba. She was the youngest of four siblings, that included her sisters Hilda and Lidia, and her brother Jorge. As a child, she met and became friends with Faustino Corripio. The pair grew up together, eventually fell in love and married on May 6, 1962. Together they faced many challenges and left Cuba for Madrid, Spain, in September 1970. They lived in Spain, the land of their parents, for a period of four years before eventually moving and settling in Yonkers, New York in October 1974.
Emelina was a devoted mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend to many. She will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved her. Emelina's greatest legacy is her family. She was the loving wife of Faustino, who passed away on September 22, 2023, after 61 years of marriage. She was mother ("Mami") of Lourdes (Joseph Cabanas), Javier (Enna Escalona) and Lisette. She was the caring grandmother ("Abuela") of Marc Cabanas, Emely Cabanas, Kevin Corripio, and Karen Corripio. Emelina was also a loving aunt to her nieces and nephews.
Emelina was an accountant by education, and worked as a controller and bookkeeper until retirement.
