Joseph Paul Casale, age 90, passed away peacefully at his home in Dallas, Texas on Wednesday June 18th, 2025.
Raised by Italian parents, the late Michael and Anna Casale, on the Bronx-Yonkers border, he knew the value of education and hardwork. He loved his undergraduate years at Iona College in New Rochelle and went on to study Dentistry at Columbia University (1961). Joseph often said "You can get a lot of things in this world, but an education is the one thing that can never be taken away".
After graduating from Columbia University, Joseph started his dental practice at 186th Street and Nereid Avenue in the Bronx. For many years to come, rarely did a day go by without a story that started with "One of my patients in the Bronx…." He loved dentistry and missed everything about it after his retirement.
Joseph married Theresa (Vertucci) on July 1st, 1961 - the love of his life. One week later, Joseph landed in Fort Campbell, Kentucky where he proudly served as a Captain in the 181st Airborne Division - jumping out of a plane just once but fixing lots of teeth along the way.
Joseph was a family man and when he wasn't working in his dental practice, his weekends were mostly spent working around his house in Chappaqua. He would often garden from sun up to sun down on the weekends and took great pride in his hard work. He loved working with his hands and, according to his sons Thomas and Gregory, there was not a thing he couldn't fix. His tools were always organized and labeled and his garden was a work of art.
His circle of friends was small but he did not know a stranger. Waiting in line at a store guaranteed he would leave after "a very interesting conversation" with a laundry list of highly personal facts about everyone around him. He was interested in everyone he met and everything around him. Though undocumented, it is highly possible he was at least partly responsible for "Dad Jokes" and his impersonation of a duck will forever be a benchmark in the world of classic humor.
Joseph is survived by his wife and love of his life of nearly 64 years, Theresa (Vertucci). Sons Thomas (Martha Stanton) of Charlotte, NC and Gregory (Kim Crosson) of Allen, TX and only grandchild, Alex Joseph of Allen, TX. Brother Albert Casale of Mukilteo, WA. He was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret (Louis) Viola
