Betty Pittman, 85, of Yonkers, New York, peacefully passed away on September 8, 2025, at Saratoga Hospital in Saratoga Springs, NY.
Born in West Virginia, Betty carried with her the warmth, strength, and values of her roots throughout her life. She devoted nearly five decades of service to St. John's Riverside Hospital, where she worked tirelessly in Labor and Delivery, helping bring countless babies into the world. In addition, she served her community as a Home Health Care Worker, providing compassionate care and support to families.
Beyond her career, she will always be remembered for her deep devotion to her family and her legendary sweet potato pies.
On July 4th 1964, Betty was united in marriage to the late William D. Pittman, with whom she shared 15 years of love and partnership until his passing in 1979.
Betty gave her life to Christ at Hollingworth Temple in Nyack NY, where she was a devoted church clerk and Sunday school teacher. In 2005, she joined Community Baptist Church.
She was the proud mother of six children:
Darlene Moore, Warren Moore, Karen Pittman, Sharon Pittman, Tameka McDaniel, Tamia McDaniel.
She was blessed with nine grandchildren: Andre' Smith, Durrell Pittman, Shevon Moore, Dominique Norman, Shoulyn Narain, Cory Norman Jr., Laila Moore, and Isaiah Stevens. Her eldest grandchild, Andre Smith, proudly having served for the past 18 years as a Senior Non~Commissioned Officer in the United States Air Force.
Six great grandchildren: Jada, Andre Jr., Alexandre, K'Von, Devyn, and Amari. She is survived by her sisters, Joyce Anna Margaret Fitch of Toledo, OH, Patricia Ann Moore of Hattiesburg, MS, and Theresa Ann Moore; and beloved nieces: Christine Norah, Betty (Dedric) Turner, Diane Becton, Joyce Fitch, Ruby (Eddie) White, and Ophelia Jenkins; along with great ~ grand ~ nephews & nieces who cherished her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William D. Pittman (1979); mother, Mary Francis Moore (2011); sisters, Jessie May Moses (2008) and Elizabeth Ann Moore (2017); grandson, Kareem Moore (1978); nieces, Katrina
Moore (2009) Annie Pugh (2011); and her grand-nephew, Montrell Walker (1997).
