Eugenio F. Garcia Obituary

Eugenio "Felo" Garcia was born on September 1st, 1929 in Baez, Cuba. The eldest child of Fransisco and Berena . He was raised alongside his four siblings, Fidel, Berena, Filberto and Beitiy. As a young man in Cuba he worked as a farmer, tending to cows and crops, as well as delivering milk. When he wasn't working, he was playing baseball. An extraordinary talent, Felo was sought out regularly to play in ball games and is well known for belting out the furthest home run in his time, earning him the nickname "El jefe." Before the age of 21, Felo had met and married his wife Esperanza "La Nina" Garcia. Together they had three children, Felix, Julian, and Arelys. Encouraged by his Uncle Guillermo, Felo left Cuba in 1960 at the age of 30, and came to the United States on a work visa. Felo joined his Uncle in Yonkers, New York, the City he would call home for the next sixty-six years. He worked as a dishwasher his first year in the States before being able to bring his family from Cuba home to Yonkers with him. He then worked in construction for some years while regularly playing baseball on the weekends. After sometime, Felo and his wife purchased a "bodega" which they ran together successfully for many years while simultaneously acquiring several residential real estate properties in New York, as well as Florida. As the neighborhood "bodega" owner, Felo was a well known and respected figure in his neighborhood. Felo was a generous man with a kind heart and always sought to help out those in need. He eventually retired but never stopped. He enjoyed driving around in his car to the bodega, taking and picking up his grandkids from school, collecting rent and using his construction background to maintain his residential investments, watching the Mets, and spending countless hours seated on his front porch smoking a cigarette or a good cigar. At his core, Felo was a man of simple pleasures. He lived for his family, who loved him tremendously, and as a result his life was full. »(Do not delete this line. It does not print.
