William "Bill" Wangenstein, a lifelong resident of Yonkers, NY. Known for lighting up any room with his humor and warmth, passed away on November 22, 2025, at the age of 68. Born on September 10, 1957, in New Rochelle, NY, Bill's infectious laugh and selfless spirit were cultivated from a young age, and he carried these traits with him throughout his entire life.
Bill was the cherished husband of Debbie, whom he married in 1984. Together, they raised three wonderful children: Billy, Brett (with his wife Roxanne), and Jenna. He was brother to Nancy (Steve) Sedlak and the late Tommy, and his brother Mike (Maureen) and is predeceased by his parents, Bill and Helen "Honey" Wangenstein.
After proudly serving his country as a Navy veteran, Bill went on to pursue a career as in HVAC as a Director of Engineering, bringing his trademark dedication and precision to every project. His leadership skills shone brightly during his tenure as Past President of the North Yonkers Boys & Girls Club, and his community spirit was further evident through his active membership in the Lakers Club.
Bill lived his faith through his actions, always extending a helping hand and a joke to lighten the load of others. His love for playing the guitar was only rivaled by his passion for The Beatles, and he could often be found strumming their tunes or humming their hits.
Bill's idea of a perfect evening involved sitting by a fire pit, a Budweiser in hand, surrounded by friends and laughter as he shared stories that were sometimes true, often embellished, but always entertaining. You could always find him sitting on the back deck sharing conversations with his wife. His love for New York City was as big as his personality, and he was a die-hard fan of the Giants and Notre Dame Football, and especially watching it with his two boys. His passion for animals showed as he volunteered frequently at the Yonkers Animal Shelter, it brought him an abundance of joy every time he visited.
He found happiness in the simple things, whether it was playing games with friends, enjoying the company of his beloved beagle Blaze, or just soaking in the camaraderie of those he held dear. Bill's legacy is one of love, laughter, and the kind of selflessness that makes the world a better place.
Funny, selfless, and loving—these words encapsulate the essence of Bill Wangenstein. He was a man who didn't just tell jokes; he lived them, ensuring everyone around him was part of the joy. As we say goodbye to Bill, we do so with a smile, knowing that heaven has gained not just an angel, but a comedian who will surely keep the angels chuckling with his one-liners and heartwarming tales.
Bill's life was a testament to the power of laughter, the strength of love, and the enduring spirit of generosity. He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him, and his stories, his laughter, and his love will continue to echo in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those touched by his remarkable life. Cheers to you, Bill, for a life well-lived and a legacy of laughter that will echo through the ages. As he always said "It's A Wonderful Life!"
