Carmen Cartagena Obituary

In Loving Memory of

Carmen Cartagena

July 25, 1942 – November 22, 2025

With deep love and profound sadness, the family of Carmen Cartagena announces her peaceful passing, surrounded by those who cherished her most.

Born on July 25, 1942, in St. Isabel, Puerto Rico, Carmen was the beloved daughter of Maria Montalvo and Carmelo Miranda, both now deceased. She was the devoted sister of Ramona "Monin" Velez and Luz Maldonado, who predeceased her, and the loving sister of Ricardo Miranda, who survives her.

Carmen shared a beautiful life with her late husband, Alejandro "Tito" Cartagena. They were married in Villarba, Puerto Rico in 1962 and soon after moved to Yonkers, NY where together they raised a close-knit and loving family. She was the proud and devoted mother of Griselle Flores, Elvin Cartagena, Nelson Cartagena, and Hector Cartagena.

Her greatest joy came from being a grandmother—affectionately adored as "Grandma Tita." She leaves behind her treasured grandchildren: Erica and Janette Melvin; Linette, Yvette, Elvis, and Emily Cartagena; Nelson Jr. and Karen Cartagena; and Jessica and Hector Cartagena Jr. Carmen was also blessed with an extraordinary legacy of 11 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immeasurable joy. She was a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in her heart.

Carmen will forever be remembered for her warm spirit, infectious laughter, and the happiness she brought into every room. Her love of cooking—especially her enormous holiday feasts—created traditions that will live on in the hearts of her family for generations. For Carmen, family was everything. She gave love freely, welcomed everyone with open arms, and built a home where all felt welcomed.

Her departure leaves a void that can never be filled, but her memory will continue to guide, comfort, and inspire those who were blessed to know her.

May she rest in eternal peace, reunited with her loved ones, and forever watching over the family she adored.
