In loving memory of Mariamma Valiplackal Kurian, who was called to eternal rest on Friday November 28th at the age of 88.
She is the elder sister to the late Thomas Kurian. She is survived by her sister-in-law Alice, her two nephews Mathew and John, niece-in-law Jacienta, and their four children Rafael, Michael, Lucia, and Veronica. She will be forever remembered by her 10 siblings, some of whom have gone before her.
Mariamma ("Aunty") was born on December 10, 1936 in Edapaddy, Kerala, India to parents Kurian Valiplackal and Mariam Kurian. She grew up in Kerala and was the first in her family to emigrate to The United States as a Nurse in the 1970s. She worked at St. Clare's Hospital in Manhattan, and then the Veterans Affairs Hospital in the Bronx for 30 years. She retired in December 2011 and had been enjoying life at home with family.
She was in good health until a month ago when she was diagnosed with rapidly progressive kidney failure. After going in and out of the hospital, she and the family decided on home hospice to avoid suffering and keep her comfortable. In her final days she was surrounded by her family with warmth and love. She passed away peacefully in her sleep.
We thank you all for your love and support during this difficult time. Please pray for our family and for the repose of Aunty's soul.
