Joan Portanova, 92, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2025.
Born on August 16, 1933, in Yonkers, New York, to parents Stanley and Gertrude O'Donnell-Ringler, Joan lived a life defined by love, dedication, and an unwavering devotion to her family. Fiercely independent and strong-willed, she approached life on her own terms, inspiring those around her with her courage, resilience, and commanding presence.
Her family was her greatest pride and joy, always at the center of her world. She will be remembered not only for her bold and vibrant personality but also for the love and warmth she shared with those closest to her.
Joan is survived by her children, Ralph Troccoli and Robert Troccoli; her grandchildren, Kristi Alfaro (David), Robert Troccoli (Maria), and Nicolette Rappoccio (Anthony); and her great-grandchildren, Chase and Cooper Alfaro, Theo Troccoli, and Anthony Rappoccio, who brought her endless joy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Portanova; her son, James Troccoli; her parents, Stanley and Gertrude O'Donnell-Ringler; and her siblings, Gertrude Massimi, Doris Heady, and Stanley Ringler.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Joan's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
