Robert Fitzpatrick Obituary
Robert George Fitzpatrick, 78, of Woodsboro, Maryland, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2026 in Mt. Kisco, New York, surrounded by his family.
Born on February 18, 1948 in Brockton, Massachusetts, Robert was the son of the late Alfred and Ethel (Cruser) Fitzpatrick. He grew up in Foxboro, Massachusetts.
He met the love of his life, Elaine Lura (Ryan) Fitzpatrick, at Northeastern University, where both earned their undergraduate and graduate degrees—his in electrical engineering. The two shared 52 wonderful years of marriage before her passing in 2021. Together they built a home filled with faith, education, and devotion to family. They shared a love of travel, taking many cruises together, and treasured their time on Cape Cod.
Robert built a distinguished career as a nuclear engineer, devoted to the safe and responsible use of nuclear energy. He spent the majority of his career with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission in the Washington, D.C. area and at Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton, New York. His expertise took him across Europe, where he advised foreign regulators on reactor safety and policy. In the private sector, he turned his engineering mind toward space exploration, contributing to NASA's Mars rover and capsule development programs..
A proud son of Foxboro, Robert was a devoted New England Patriots fan all his life. When he moved to New York in the 1980s, he embraced his new home and adopted the Mets as his baseball team, becoming a lifelong and loyal fan—though his allegiance to the Patriots never wavered.
Robert was predeceased by his beloved wife, Elaine, in 2021. He is survived by his five children, Howard Fitzpatrick, Emily Schank, Cecily Lidstrom, Marjorie Oakes, and Alexander Fitzpatrick; and his ten cherished grandchildren, who were the great joy of his later years.
A wake will be held at Oelker-Cox & Sinatra Funeral Home on Thursday, April 23, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Church of St. Patrick in Armonk, New York, on Friday, April 24, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. The Mass will also be livestreamed on the parish's YouTube channel (@StPatricksArmonk).
