Sebastiano Blancato, of Yonkers, NY, passed away peacefully at home on April 23, 2026.

Sebastiano was born on July 17, 1930, in Sicily, Italy, to the late Antonino and Antonietta Blancato. As a young man, he became a skilled furniture craftsman, working alongside his father. On October 26, 1960, he married the love of his life, Lucia Tabacco. They shared 58 devoted years of marriage until her passing on December 22, 2018.

In 1966, Sebastiano immigrated to the United States with his wife and two young daughters, settling in the Bronx. Through hard work and sacrifice, he built a life for his family that eventually led to the purchase of their lifelong home in Yonkers.

He found great joy in returning to his hometown of Sortino to visit family, giving his children and grandchildren a lasting connection to their roots. Sebastiano took pride in tending his vegetable garden—especially his cherished fig tree—and enjoyed playing cards, particularly Scopa, where he was known for always winning, as well as bingo. Above all, he loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.

Sebastiano is survived by his daughters, Antonietta (Frank Castaldi) and Nancy (Jim Matessino). He was a proud grandfather to Roberto (Jenny), Danielle (Jose), Michael (Katie), and Jessica (Dean), and a loving great-grandfather to Adriana, Enzo, and Emma.

He will be profoundly missed, but his warmth, wisdom, and deep love for his family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 1st, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Sinatra Funeral Home, 499 Yonkers Avenue, Yonkers, NY. A Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 2nd at 10:00 am at St. Ann’s Church, 854 Midland Avenue, Yonkers, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in his memory to the American Lung Association.
