Sara Giner Obituary

Sara Giner (née Welby), a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully in Katonah, New York, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family. Born on Halloween in 1937 in the coastal city of Galway, Ireland, Sara's life was defined by her adventurous spirit, her deep devotion to family, and a journey that spanned countries and continents.

Sara was one of six children, born to a close-knit Irish family alongside her siblings Martin, Maureen, Bridget, Muiread, and Joseph.

At just 17, Sara left her native Ireland for Birmingham, England, to live with her eldest sister, Maureen. This initial leap fostered a lifelong love for exploring new horizons. She later moved to London, where she spent several years working. Ever open to new opportunities, Sara was convinced by a friend to move to Madrid, Spain. It was there that her life changed forever when she met the love of her life, Pedro. The two built a beautiful life together in Spain before crossing the Atlantic, first settling in Massachusetts to be close to Sara's sisters, Muiread and Bridget, before ultimately making their home in Westchester, New York, where they raised their family.

Sara's greatest legacy is the family she built. She was a deeply devoted mother to her three children: Sherry and her husband Todd, Peter and his wife Dina, and Alicia and her husband Brian. She was equally devoted as a grandmother, pouring boundless love, wisdom, and warmth into the lives of her grandchildren, and was further blessed to know the joy of two great-grandchildren. Her home was always filled with laughter and cherished memories.

Sara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Pedro, who passed away in July 2020. Throughout their marriage, they shared a passion for travel, frequently returning to Spain in the summer and spending peaceful winters on Cape Cod.

She will be remembered for her grace, her resilience, and the quiet strength it took to build a life across three nations. Her memory will live on forever in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, and all who were lucky enough to know her.

A mass will be held on Friday, June 12, 2026, at 11 am at St. Mary of the Assumption in Katonah, New York.
