Assunta DiLascio Obituary

Assunta DiLascio (née Vece), a beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, peacefully passed away on June 14, 2026, at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx, New York. She was 97 years old.

Born on August 16, 1928, in Acerno, Salerno Italy, Assunta was the cherished daughter of Donato Vece and Orsola Vece-Russo. She was one of six children and was predeceased by her beloved siblings Michelé, Gerardo, Angelina, Immacolata, and Raffaella.

On October 30, 1947, she married Gerardo DiLascio. Together they shared 43 years of marriage until his passing on December 31, 1990. Their love and devotion laid the foundation for the close-knit family that was always the center of Assunta's life.

She is lovingly survived by her daughters, MaryAnn Romano (Generoso) and Linda Telese (Ciro); her cherished grandchildren, Michael (Joanne), Gerald (Michelle), Marisa (Felix), Salvatore, Roberto, and Cristina; and her adored great-grandchildren, Talia, Tristan, Gabriella, Daniella, Luke, Charlie, Nicholas, Dominic, and one precious great-grandchild on the way.

Assunta was the heart of her family. She was strong, funny, and wonderfully feisty, with a quick wit and a mischievous sense of humor that kept everyone smiling. Those who knew her will never forget her signature expression—holding up three fingers and saying, "Read between the lines," or her playful habit of giving someone "the finger" just to get a laugh. She had a way of making every gathering brighter.

An incredible cook, Assunta showed her love through food. Her Sunday gravy and famous meatballs brought family together around the table week after week, creating traditions and memories that will live on for generations. To her, feeding those she loved was one of life's greatest joys.

Above all else, Assunta's greatest pride was her family. She loved fiercely, gave generously, and taught those around her the importance of strength, resilience, laughter, and unconditional love. Her legacy lives on not only through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, but through the countless memories she created and the traditions she leaves behind.

Though she will be deeply missed, her love will forever remain in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. Her family finds comfort in knowing that every pot of Sunday gravy, every shared meal, every laugh, and every story told around the table will keep her spirit alive for generations to come.

She is now reunited with her beloved husband Gerardo, and all those who went before her, watching over the family she cherished so deeply.

In lieu of flowers please make contributions to the St Judes Children's Hospital in her name.
