Obituary of Maria V. Fragoso

Please share a memory of Maria to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Maria Virginia Fragoso was born in Sao Paolo, Brazil on December 12, 1919 to her parent's Antonio and Antonia. Virginia, as she was called by her loved ones, was raised in a small town in Portugal after leaving Brazil at two years old. Her life in America began in 1957 after Virginia and her late husband, Jose, emigrated from Portugal. They first arrived in Boston and later they moved to Yonkers, New York. She was always grateful to be in America surrounded by her extended family. After a long and full life, Virginia just entered Heaven's gates on September 1st, 2017. Virginia was a skilled seamstress, and she enjoyed her work for many years. She also loved to watch a spicy Novella and she enjoyed crocheting beautiful things for her family. Her greatest passion was being a loving mother. She is survived by her two children, Emilia, Ernie, and her daughter in law, Augusta. Later she became the proud grandmother to five grandchildren, Joseph, Victoria, Michael, Paul, and Lisa. It was a wonderful blessing for her to also have the opportunity to know her great grandchildren, Alyssa, Ashley, Celine, Amber, Michaiella, Natalia, Gia, Alexandra, Braiden, Abriela, and Anthony Jr. They all fondly called her VaVa, and she was happiest being surrounded by the children, singing, dancing and cooking her best Portuguese dishes. The noise of the children was never too loud for her; rather it was like music to her ears. VaVa cherished every moment she had with them. Above all, VaVa will be remembered by her kindness, joy, and contagious smile. She was a good person and an inspiration in every way. Until the very end and when she was suffering most, all who encountered her would admire her pleasantness. VaVa was a beautiful woman inside and out, and she was truly adored.Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral at Sinatra Memorial Home, 601 Yonkers Ave on Friday, September 8th, from 2-8 pm.
