Ida Amelia Maglio Ross, age 91, a long-time resident of Armonk passed away on Friday, August 19, 2011. Ida was born on December 14, 1919 in Rye, NY to the late Fred and Rebecca Calabrese. She married Robert Ross on July 16, 1965. Also known as "Apple Cider", her CB handle, Ida was a Good Samaritan of the highways for many years. She would assist truckers and accident victims on interstate 684 by calling police, ambulance, businesses, or families. At times, this "Armonk Angel" even brought coffee and sandwiches to the accident scenes. A past employee of the Town of North Castle, Ida was a crossing guard, a job she enjoyed as she kept a watchful eye on Armonk's young residents. Ida also waitressed at her family's restaurant called the 'Veterans Stop', as well as the 'Wagon Wheel' restaurant, and bartended at the American Legion. Ida was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Unit 1097, and the Armonk Independent Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Ida was very devoted to her family, as well as her New York Yankees. Ida is survived by her sisters, Lily Rains, Lucille Bates, and brother Alphanso "Sonny" Calabrese. Also survived by her children Patricia Belfonte, Joseph Maglio, and Dorothy "Dolly" Boyd Gambino, and stepsons Douglas and James Ross, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband Bob, sister Rose See, and grandson Lloyd Boyd. Visitation is being held at Oelker-Cox & Sinatra Funeral Home, 262 E. Main Street, Mt. Kisco from 5-9pm on Monday. Mass of Christian Burial, Tuesday, August 23 at St. Patrick's in Armonk at 11am. Interment at St. Francis Cemetery, Mt. Kisco.
