Obituary of Elizabeth Smith

Smith, Elizabeth H., 86, a longtime resident of Mount Kisco, died unexpectedly yet peacefully on January 27, 2012 after a short illness. Born December 20, 1925 in Livingston, Tennessee at the family homestead, she was the daughter of the late Cecil and Alice Windle, and a direct descendent of General John Sevier, an American Revolutionary War hero and the first governor of Tennessee. She retired from The Readers Digest with over 17-years of service and was active in the American Legion Auxiliary. She volunteered for numerous organizations including Northern Westchester Hospital, Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts, and Meals-on-Wheels. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Peter E. Smith. Survived by her four cherished children: Jeanette Rose Brownfield of Heidelberg, Germany, Elizabeth Alice (James) Maxson of Williamsville, NY; Eileen (Mike) Misiti of Glenwood, NY; and Col. Michael Peter (Elizabeth) Smith of Tallahassee, FL; nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren, her sister, Frances Windle Jackson of San Bernardino, California, and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive visitors at the Oelker and Cox Funeral Home on Thursday, February 2nd from 2 to 4PM and 7 to 9 PM. A celebration of her life will take place at the United Methodist Church of Mount Kisco sanctuary on Friday, February 3rd at 11 AM, where she was a member for over 50 years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to The League for the Handicapped Preschool Learning Center, 393 North Street, Springville, NY 14141.
