Rose "Tootsie" Russo, age 84, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2012 at St. John's Riverside Hospital after a brief illness. Born on November 23, 1927 to Rose and Joseph Grotto, Tootsie was raised in Yonkers, NY and was a graduate of Commerce High School and an employee of New York Telephone. On November 26, 1955 she married Dominick V. Russo who predeceased her on October 10, 2009. She leaves behind a loving and cherished son, Richard R. Russo of Yonkers and her loving and devoted daughter and best friend Rosana Szabatura, her loving son-in-law, Dr. Michael Szabatura and cherished granddaughter, Ava Rose, all of White Plains. In addition, Tootsie leaves behind, to cherish her memory, her dear sisters Annette May and Norma Locksa and her dear cousin and best friends Chicky Chirurgi and Anna D'Ottavio. She was predeceased by four brothers, Antone, Joseph, Peter and Robert and by two sisters, Frances Grotto and Angela Beaumont. Toots was a life-long baseball fan, an accomplished cook and loved spending time with her constant companion, her daughter. She always said she was very blessed to have a loving and devoted family. There were no regrets, we had a ball. Rose's family would like to thank Dr. Max Chait and staff at The Hartsdale Medical Group and Dr. Maryanne Monahan of The Westmed Group for treating her with such loving care and great compassion throughout the years. Also, to the doctors, nurses and staff at St. John's Riverside Hospital for their kindness, compassion and love given to Rose during the past several months.
