Obituary of Ruth K. Pell

Ruth K. Pell, 91, long-time resident of Armonk, NY passed peacefully on February 7, 2013. Ruth was born on July 18, 1921 in Greenwich, CT to Edward and Loretta Kane. She married Frederick Pell on June 14, 1947 in a double ring ceremony with her sister Irene and her husband Joseph Trefny at The Sacred Heart Church in East Port Chester. Ruth attended Teachers College at Columbia University where she received her Master's Degree in 1967. Ruth was the first woman Dean at Pace University and served as Dean of the Leinhard School of Nursing from 1971-1981. She retired in 1984. Ruth was an active parishioner of St. Patrick's Church in Armonk, NY where she was a choir member and taught religious education for many years. Ruth was an active member of the Green Acres Garden Club and served as coordinator of Meals on Wheels for the area. Ruth will be remembered for her love of gardening, her amazing cooking, and her memorable parties that she gave for family, friends, coworkers and club members. Her gift was bringing people together and making them feel welcome. Ruth was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Loretta Kane, her loving husband, Frederick Pell, brother in law Robert Pell, her sister, Irene Kane Trefny and brother in law Joseph Trefny. She is survived by her loving children, sons Robert (Jeanny) of Boynton Beach, FL; James (Kathleen) of Plattsburgh, NY; Frederick (Susan) of Monroe CT; daughter Joan Moore of Patterson, NY; six grandchildren; Thomas, Christopher Pell; Sarah, David Pell; Dylan, Jesse Moore; her brothers Edward (Brenda) Kane of Lancaster, PA and Richard (Lee) Kane of Strasburg, PA and 5 very special nieces and their families. Calling hours will be at Oelker and Cox Funeral Home, 262 E. Main St., Mount Kisco, NY on Sunday, February 10th from 2 to 4PM and 7 to 9PM. Funeral services will be held at St. Patrick's in Armonk at 11:30 AM on February 11. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Patrick's Church, Attention: In Memory of Ruth K.
