Obituary of Jo Anne Nacheman Swanson

Jo Anne Nacheman Swanson, known as Jo, passed away May 13, 2013 in Chapel Hill, NC from appendiceal cancer. She was the beloved wife of Jeffrey Swanson for 28 years. Born in New York, NY in 1955, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Helen Nacheman, of Chapel Hill. Jo was a graduate of Fox Lane, H.S., Bedford, NY, and of Lesley College, Cambridge, MA, where she received a BA in Special Education and a minor in Psychology. Prior to moving to Chapel Hill in 2006, she and her husband Jeff resided in Massachusetts where she worked for the D.Y.S. as a special education teacher, and developed a life skills curriculum which was instituted statewide. In 1991-92 she was honored as Teacher of the Year by the Bureau of Instiutional Schools . She is survived by Jeff, her sister, Elinor Nacheman, her brother, Robert and his wife Jessica Nacheman, Jeff's brothers and sisters two nieces and eight nephews, all of whom will dearly miss her. A graveside funeral service will be held Thursday, May 16, 2013 at 1:00 PM in King David Cemetery in Putnam Valley, NY.
