Obituary of Grace Cornelius
Please share a memory of Grace to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Grace Lombardi Cornelius, 90, passed away peacefully on 9/22/13, residing at Cabrini Nursing home in Dobbs Ferry, NY. Immigrating to New York from Italy in 1928, Grace grew up in the Bronx, attended public schools, and became a medical secretary for 25+ years. She met her soldier husband Bill, in a restaurant in NYC in 1943. She and Bill shared a successful life together, created a work-of-art home, pursued their careers, and raised two children. Family and country were always dear to their hearts -- proud survivors of the Depression and WWII. Grace circled the earth twice, with many trips to Europe and 22 trips to the beaches of Hawaii. Wherever she went, Grace created community, friends, activities, and most of all laughter. I will always think of you, Mom, behind the wheel, driving your Cadillac on your way to the beach, having fun and laughing with family and friends. Your cocktail parties, with your signature stuffed mushrooms and champagne, will never be matched. Grace is survived by her son (Bill Cornelius, Long Island), daughter (Margo Lorber of Hastings), and their spouses, six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, two sisters, three brothers, countless nieces and nephews. You will be missed!! Thank you Cabrini Nursing Home for your love and care!!
