Obituary of Albertha Lucretia Benjamin
Please share a memory of Albertha to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Albertha Lucretia Benjamin was a great lady. Her parents the Jones gave her away in matrimony to Cecil A. Benjamin. She married Cecil A. Benjamin and became mother to Lawrence Kent Benjamin and Patricia Ann Benjamin. She was a beloved wife and mother and will be eternally loved. She has been married for fifty-one years.
She was a successful social worker, Attendance and teacher of English. She inspired her students to succeed and become authors, singers, doctors, lawyers and civil servants. She loved inspirational literature her favorite authors were Maya Angelou and Toni Morrison. My mother went to Hunter Teacher College High School for her Bachelors of Arts in English and Fordham University for her Masters in Arts in English has a certificate in Administration. This was an achievement because she began college at the age of sixteen. Her family are members of the NAACP. She was a wonderful, skilled teacher and her deep commitment to her students. She taught them writing and research. She began a Sorority in the Bronx Chapter called Delta Sigma Theta and the to this day puts 100's of thousands of student into college. The students under her charge continue to excel and commit to the principles that impacted her life and probably yours as well.
Children love their parents. Children may not realize until they are grown How sweet and kind their parents are. She was wise and gentle. She had an inner strength. My father is strong, wise and supportive. They lived through the Great Depression, segregation, wars, and the civil rights movement. Her cousins Percy and Marcus were World War two veterans. My father's service as a Korean War veteran enabled him to go to college and send money back home to his parents to keep their house. They met at CUNY University and feel in love. In college in met my mother. My mother went to Hunter Teacher College. They are both Fordham Graduates. They raised two children together. She took seven off to raise us.
She worked hard to support her family and provide a college education and a home for us all. They were truly Raisins in the Sun.
We simply take for granted from day to passing day each sacrifice they make for us in their own loving way to raise us. She will always be deeply loved. She will be missed by us all.
