John Richard "J.R." Tesone of Armonk, NY, died on Saturday, Feb. 15 at Northern Westchester Hospital after a brief struggle with cancer. He was 66. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Iris, their daughter Jenny, and their son J.C. and his family, Elizabeth, Jared, Daniel, and Ethan. He is also survived by sisters Priscilla Tortorella and Stephanie Palmer and their families; and by brothers Joseph and James Tesone and their families. J.R. was also a devoted uncle and great-uncle to 27 nieces and nephews.
J.R. was born in the Bronx in 1948 to the late John R. and Marie Tesone, was raised in Eastchester, and earned a BS from Fordham University and an MBA from Iona College. He married Iris Sheridan from the Bronx in 1968 and the family moved to Armonk in 1977. J.R. taught mathematics at Brandeis High School in NYC for a number of years, but was best known as the owner and beloved Director of Breezemont Day Camp in Armonk, where he had been involved for 48 years. He was active in the community, serving on the boards of the American Camping Association, the New York State Camping Directors Association, and the Westchester County Board of Health. His passion for sports included directing and coaching in the Armonk Little League, playing in a softball league for nearly 50 years and, more recently, attending his grandsons' baseball and hockey games, and teaching them how to fish. He was a season ticket holder for the New York Rangers for 24 years and also an avid fan of the San Francisco Giants, New York Giants, and New York Yankees. J.R. loved his camp kids, loved the camping business, loved telling stories, and loved his family above all. He will be dearly missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting memorial gifts be made to the American Liver Foundation at www.liverfoundation.org/howtohelp .
