Obituary of Mary St. John

Mary Zilempe St. John, of Yonkers, died peacefully on May 9, 2014. Born January 27, 1927 in the Bronx, she was the daughter of the late Michael Zilempe and Madeline (Cariello) Zilempe. She married Martin F. St. John on September 27, 1947. He predeceased her in 1987. She is survived by her son Martin St. John and his wife Diana of Valley Cottage, her son James St. John and his wife Marilyn of Dobbs Ferry, her grandson Michael and his wife Devon, her grandson David and his wife Lisa and her granddaughter Melissa. She was great grandmother to Annabella, Abigail and Dani. She is also survived by her brother Joseph Zilempe. Mary worked for the Carvel Corporation in Yonkers for over 20 years. She performed countless hours of volunteer work as a reading tutor, prepared delicious meals for the homeless and crocheted beautiful baby clothes for the needy. She was devoted to her family and will be greatly missed. Friends may call on Monday from 3PM to 8PM at Sinatra Memorial Home, Inc., 601 Yonkers Ave., Yonkers, NY. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11:00 at Annunciation Church, 470 Westchester Ave, Yonkers. Interment will be in Gate Of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla.
