Joseph F. Progreske, age 87, of Bedford, NY died peacefully Friday, June 20, 2014 at Waterview Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Purdy's. Joseph was commonly known to his friends as Joe Pro. He was born October 1, 1926 in Mt. Kisco, NY the son of the late Joseph and Margaret (Artwick) Progreske. He was a Navy Veteran serving during WWII from 1944 to 1946 on the USS Passaic. Joe could always be found wearing his baseball cap with the ships name and insignia. He was proud of his service and loved to tell of his time served. He was employed by Bedford Fire Dept. for 35 years and proud of his experience as serving an ex Fire Chief during that time. Joe also was employed as an assistant manager at the Bedford Playhouse. Joe was an avid NY Yankee and NASCAR racing fan. He is survived by his loving wife Monica (Joaquim) Progreske who recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on June 18, 2014. He is also survived by his sons Lawrence Progreske, Brian Progreske and a daughter Joanne (Joe) LaPorta and two grandsons, Joey and Mike. Also surviving is his sister Helen Henker and sister-in-law, Felice Joaquim. The family would like to thank Roberta & Steve Velichko of Always an Angel and Nanci Ferraro and Eirsha Charles for their compassionate care of Dad at home. Friends may call on Sunday from 4 PM to 9 PM at Oelker-Cox & Sinatra Funeral Home, 262 E. Main Street, Mount Kisco, NY. The funeral will be Monday at 10:00 at St. Patrick's Church (Bedford), State Road, Bedford. Interment will be in Bedford Union Cemetery, Bedford. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Bedford Fire Department
