Eleanor C. DeMatteis (nee Ortlieb) of Yonkers passed away on July 27, 2014 following a brief illness. Eleanor was born in the Bronx, New York, on November 24, 1931 to the late Eric and Charlotte Ortlieb (nee Schimmrich). After graduating from Walton High School in 1949 Eleanor worked as a switchboard operator and payroll administrator for FireDoor (World Steel) in the Bronx. On April 22, 1961 she married Donato "Danny" DeMatteis, who pre-deceased her on March 18, 2014. Together they dedicated their lives to raising their only child, Danielle, who remained the light of their lives. Eleanor was a full-time mom who volunteered her time as a member of the PTA for St. Helena's Grammar School and St. Catharine Academy, both in the Bronx. Her accomplishments earned her the "Mother of the Year Award" from St. Catharine Academy in 1985. Eleanor loved decorating for the holidays, especially Christmas, and delighted in sharing her talents making gifts for family friends and neighbors. She will be remembered and cherished for her quips, warmth, generosity and compassion for others, especially animals. Friends may call at the Sinatra Memorial Home, 601 Yonkers Avenue, on Thursday, July 31 from 5-9 p.m. Funeral mass to be held at the Church of the Annunciation on Friday, August 1 at 10 a.m. Interment immediately following at Kensico Cemetery.
