Obituary of Luigi Fata

Luigi Fata, of Nanuet, NY, died peacefully on October 29, 2014 at the age of 74. He was born in Calabria, Italy on December 7, 1939. Luigi was one of seven children to the late Natale and Teresina Fata. Luigi immigrated to America with his family at the age of 16. Luigi is survived by his wife of 50 years, Karen Fata, and his daughter, son and spouses, Theresa and Kevin Kloepping and Luigi Jr. and Maria Fata; and 4 grandchildren, Lucas, Marisa, Alexis and Nicholas. He was gentle, compassionate, fun loving and always full of life. When he entered a room with pep in his step, the room lit up and people were happy to see him. He lived for his family; he always fed us great food, cared for us, made us laugh at his quirky one liners and most of all loved us and showed us how to live life. When he came to the U.S., he embraced American culture, went to night school to learn the English language and always wanted to drive a big American car. Over the years, he worked in the restaurant business cleaning dishes and washing floors while simultaneously watching and learning from all the chefs. He spent time working in the family business, Five Brothers Pizza in the Bronx, where he learned valuable cooking skills from his parents. He later mastered his craft working in many pizzerias over his almost 60 years in the business and finally opened his own pizzeria, Luigi's Pizza, in Pelham, NY in 1994. He was and will always be the best pizza man ever. Family and friends may call on Sunday from 2PM to 4PM and 7PM to 9PM at Sinatra Memorial Home, Inc., 601 Yonkers Ave., Yonkers, NY. The funeral will be Monday at 11:30 at St. Anthony's Church, 36 West Nyack Road, Nanuet, NY. Entombment will be at St. Anthony's Cemetery in Nanuet.
