Melissa (Missi) Mero (née Roepken) of Garrison, NY, died on Sunday, December 21st, 2014, the Winter Solstice. She was 46 years old. Born in Garden City, Long Island, NY to Bud and Pat Roepken, Melissa received a B.A. in Anthropology from SUNY Purchase in 1990 and a Master’s Degree in Elementary Ed. from Manhattanville College 1998. After graduation, she dedicated herself to the children of George Washington Elementary School in Lakeland Central School District. She also worked with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America, Troop 165, Yorktown Heights, NY. In 2000 Melissa authored “The Inexorable Gravity of Home: A Guide To Hypothetical Happiness.” She is also the subject of such works as “Dreaming of Meteors”, “The Girl Who Was Vitamin C” and “Laughing at Disaster” by Lázlo Church. She leaves behind her son Logan Anarchy and her husband Erick. She is also survived by both parents, her brothers Wesley, Gregory, Daniel, and Timothy, her sister Stasi, and all their spouses and children. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 27 from 1 to 4PM at the Sinatra Memorial Home, 601 Yonkers Ave., Yonkers, NY. In lieu of flowers, the Mero Family respectfully requests you continue to donate to whatever causes you have found worthy of your affection and time.
