Obituary of Mary Brillis

Mary Brillis, wife of Adam Brillis who predeceased her, born Mary Barber on November 25, 1925 passed away on July 26, 2015. She is survived by daughters, Elaine Brillis and Georgia Brillis, sister Angela Fardy and brother John Barber, brother-in-law Peter Brillis and wife Carol, and many nieces, nephews and grandnieces and nephews who loved her deeply and will always remember her with great affection. Mary grew up in Bellaire, Ohio where she graduated high school and attended business school before moving with her family to Yonkers, New York. She was a valued long-time employee of Bank of America, formerly National Bank of North America in Yonkers where she retired as head teller in 2000. Her job was demanding and at times stressful but she was dedicated to serving others and forged many fulfilling relationships with local residents and merchants in the area. Mary was known for her sweet soft spoken nature and warm loving heart. She was always interested in the lives of others and very sociable. Despite her age and health conditions she looked forward to attending gatherings with her family and at Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church where she was a member for over 65 years. For many years she and husband Adam graciously hosted holidays at their home where all guests were always treated like family and offered many home-made Greek dishes and pastries all made with love. Mary and Adam also enjoyed socializing and vacationing with couples and their families who attended Prophet Elias Church and with sister Angela and her husband Steven. As a first generation American whose parents came from the small island of Samothrace in Greece and made a successful life for themselves and their children, Mary leaves behind a legacy of inner strength, enormous resilience and devotion to love of family and her church. Friends may call at the Sinatra Memorial Home on Tuesday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church in Yonkers. Funeral services will be held at Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church Wednesday morning at 10:30am. Repast luncheon directly after funeral services and interment at Oakland Cemetery, Yonkers.
