Obituary of Arcangelo Bollella

Arcangelo Bollella, a long time Armonk resident, recently of Catskill and Albany went peacefully to the Lord on November 19, 2015 at the age of 94 to be with his beloved wife Rose. Born March 7, 1921 in Benevento Naples, Italy, he immigrated to the United States at the age of 18 to be with his dad Domenico, leaving his mother Carmela (Sansamici) Bollella and two brothers in Benevento who all later came to the US. Arky, or Angelo, as he was known to family and friends was predeceased by his wife Rose D. Bollella, brothers Domenico Bollella and his wife Concetta, and Agostino Bollella. Also daughter Marie Bollella and son in law Richard J. Strack predeceased him. Arcangelo served in the US Army during WWII and was severely injured at the battle of Monte Cassino for which he received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and other medals, On June 14, 2015 Arky was inducted into the NY State Vetrans Hall of Fame and received NY State Senate Liberty Award presented to him by Sen. George Amedore. On December 9, 1945 Arky married his soul mate Rose D. (Balestriere) and together they shared 65 years of marriage. Arcangelo is survived by his son Dominick Bollella and his wife Ruth of Athens, NY, daughter Marie A. Strack of Wappingers Falls, NY, grandson Brian Bollella, grandson James A Strack and his wife Melissa of Poughkeepsie, NY, granddaughter Helen-Rose Strack of Wappingers Falls, great granddaughters Brianna Bollella of Saugerties, Samantha Janssen and great grandson Ricky Janssen, sister in law Nancy Bollella and many nieces and nephews. Arky retired from the Veterans Administration where he worked for over 35 years. Once retired he enjoyed "odd jobs" and was a gifted afghan maker and an avid reader. He made many friends in Armonk, Catskill and Albany all of whom enjoyed his sense of humor, his comradery and devotion. Arcangelo's family wants to profess a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Stratton VA at Albany for the care, comfort and love you gave him during his time with you. As he would say, Oh boy Almond Joy" you are the BEST. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Friends may call on Sunday from 2PM to 4PM & 7PM to 9PM at Oelker-Cox & Sinatra Funeral Home, 262 E. Main Street, Mount Kisco, NY. The funeral will be Monday at 10:00 at St. Patrick's Church ( Armonk), 25 Cox Ave, Armonk. Interment will be in St. Raymond Cemetery, Bronx, NY. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or to the National Alzheimer's Association in Arcangelo's name.
