Obituary of Caroline A. D'Angelo

Please share a memory of Caroline to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Caroline "Carrie" D'Angelo, a lifelong resident of Yonkers, NY, passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2016, at St. John's Riverside Hospital due to complications from a motor vehicle accident. She spent the day surrounded by her family. Carrie was an outgoing, warm and well-loved member of the Yonkers community and of St. Bartholomew's Parish, to which she belonged for 60 years. She was born October 1, 1926, to the late Achilles and Bridget Chiarilli, the third of four children. On June 14, 1947, she married the late Victor D'Angelo. Together they raised three children. Carrie was a devoted and active member of St. Bartholomew's Parish for much of her life. St. Bart's was her home, and its members were part of her family. Her involvement extended to all aspects of the Parish, from the church to the school and beyond. She served as a lector at Mass, worked in the office of the rectory, and was a former president of the Rosary Altar Society. Carrie volunteered as a school lunch mother, a role she continued to perform long after her own children were grown. She also served as a "surrogate grandmother" to the Pre-K classes and spent many happy hours reading stories to the children. She was heartbroken when the school closed its doors in 2011. Carrie also spent some time in the spotlight as a member of Broadway at St. Bart's, a community theater group with which she performed in such musicals as Mame, South Pacific, and The Music Man. But her favorite role was Santa Claus—she donned the red suit and delighted the people of St. Bart's for many years. Carrie was the beloved mother of three children, Susan Vellucci (Frederic) of Wappingers Falls, NY, Carolyn D'Angelo of Westchester, and Victor D'Angelo Jr. of Yonkers, NY; she was blessed with five grandchildren, Michelle Vames (Steven) of South Orange, NJ, Melissa Magnani, Frederic Vellucci (Jiwon) of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Dominic Vellucci (Rosa) of Shelburne, MA, and Victor D'Angelo III of Yonkers, NY; and six great-grandchildren, Peter, Freddy, Theo, Katie, Rocco and Nicholas. She is also survived by her three siblings, Mary Jacone of Fishkill, NY, Anthony Chiarilli of Laguna Woods, CA, and Lorraine DeMasi of New Rochelle, NY; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Victor, who passed away on December 31, 1983.
