Obituary of Irene DiFabbio

Mrs. Irene DiFabbio, a longtime resident of Bedford Village passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at her home after a brief illness. She was 97 years old.
Mrs. DiFabbio was born on March 13, 1919 to Thomas and Zerola Stump Visin in Plymouth, Indiana. She grew up there and in Benton Harbor, Michigan. She later moved to White Plains, New York to attend Hake Business School.
She married Joseph F. DiFabbio on January 24, 1942. They lived in Meriden, Connecticut where they worked for the World War II Effort, she at Contelco, where they made telephones for the troops, and he at Pratt & Whitney (as a tool & die maker) designing air plane parts. Mr. DiFabbio predeceased his wife in 1988.
After the war, together they founded Earth Excavators in Tuckahoe, New York. They moved the business to Mt. Kisco in 1960, when they moved to Bedford Village. They founded Old Post Gravel Center in 1967 and she was the co-owner of both businesses.
She was a parishioner of St. Patrick’s Church in Bedford. She had been an active member of the Bedford Republican Party and a past member of the Bedford Republican Club.
She is survived by her two daughters, Judith Liljeros (Alf) and Constance Ostrosky (James), and a son Joseph (Nancy) DiFabbio; one sister, Inez Stoothoff; eight grandchildren: Laura, Goveia, Eric Liljeros, Jeremy & Joseph DiFabbio, Sara Keiler, Lee, Travis and Christopher DiFabbio, and four great grandsons: Andrew, Nicholas and Noah DiFabbio and Rowan Keiler.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at the Oelker-Cox & Sinatra Funeral Home, 262 East Main St., Mt. Kisco, from 5 to 9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at 11AM at St. Patrick’s Church (Bedford). Interment will follow to Bedford Union Cemetery in Bedford, N.Y.
