Lila Williams was born in Mount Kisco, New York on May 15th 1927 to Eli and Julia Williams. She was one of six children, one deceased at an early age. Lila was attending Mount Kisco High School, when the music teacher Ms. Christman recognized her vocal talents and began giving her free music lessons. Lila's musical talent was soon recognized by the Wood family. Mr. Wood, a trustee at Fisk University secured Lila a full scholarship to Fisk. With her bachelor's degree, Lila went on to work for the Westchester County Department of Social Services. During her time there she was elevated to the position of supervisor. Lila worked diligently at St. Francis A.M.E Zion church as a choir member, church clerk, and bible study teacher. Lila leaves behind two loving sisters Julia Jefferson and Constance Claytor, one brother-in-law, Everett Louis Claytor, three nephews Bruce Claytor, Evan Claytor, and Michael Jefferson, as well as many close friends and relatives. She will be missed by all who know and loved her. She often remarked that she wanted to go home to be with the Lord. She is now at rest.
