Francisco DeSousa, age 95, of Yonkers died Tuesday, December 13, 2016. Francisco was born May 11, 1921 in Valbom, Gondomar, Portugal, the son of the late Jose and Mimosa DeSousa. Francisco immigrated to the US on May 13, 1966 and worked for many years in the construction industry. He was a member of the Westchester Heavy Construction Laborers Local #60. Francisco was also a member of the Yonkers Portuguese American Community Center. He was an avid gardener, who enjoyed spending half the year in his native country. He took pride in his rose garden and fruit trees. He was able to do this for 25 years. He is survived by his beloved wife, whom he married on November 22, 1947, Rosa Das Neves De Sousa, his daughter Anna Maria Pires and son-in-law John M. Pires, his granddaughters Elizabeth ( Alberto) Santarelli and Jennifer (Joseph) Occichone, his great-granddaughter Olivia Occichone. Also surviving is his brother Jose DeSousa and many nieces and nephews in Portugal. Friends may call on Friday from 2PM to 4PM & 6PM to 8PM at Sinatra Memorial Home, Inc., 601 Yonkers Ave., Yonkers, NY. The funeral mass will be Saturday at 10:00 at Our Lady of Fatima Portuguese Church, 355 S. Broadway, Yonkers. Interment to follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
