Louis Frank Picani "Lu Lu" passed away on Wednesday February 15, 2017 in Mid Hudson Regional Hospital, Poughkeepsie NY. He was surrounded by his loving family. Louis was born in Yonkers NY on May 31,1929 to the late Luigi and Maria Picani. Louis attended Yonkers public schools and then enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served his country aboard the USS Little Rock,and was honorably discharged in 1948.
Louis became a Yonkers Firefighter, a job which he loved. He was a proud member of Yonkers Fire Department Local 628, and retired in June, 1982. He valued the friendship of his brother firefighters whom he considered his second family. Louis looked forward to going to lunch with his retired buddies and was always the first to help someone in need. Louis loved his family above anything else. They were his world.
Beloved husband of 63 years to Rosemary (Smith) Picani. He enjoyed sitting with her and singing songs in Italian. Beloved father of Jacqueline York and Louis A. (Lorraine) Picani. Dear brother of Lucy (Louis) Casagrande. Loving grandfather of Richard (Michelle) Meltz, Louis Picani Jr, Anthony Picani, and Angela Picani. Dear great grandfather of Julian and Cadence Meltz and Natalee Picani. Also survived by many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. He was so honored that his grandson Louis was named after him, and that his grandson Anthony followed in his footsteps becoming a Yonkers firefighter in which he passed his badge onto him.
He was pre-deceased by his father, Luigi his mother, Maria and brother, Anthony "Whip' Picani. He taught us so much about life. He was a great man that had character, honesty, and integrity. Louis will be missed by all. God bless you Pa. GOD BLESS YOU
Friends may call at the Sinatra Memorial Home, 601 Yonkers Ave. Yonkers, NY 10704 on Friday (today) from 2pm-8pm. A funeral service on Saturday at 10am followed by his interment at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
