Martha Koblosh (nee Sarich) a longtime Hastings on Hudson resident passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2017at the age 89. Martha was the 4th of 5 children (Walter, Olga Bertoldi, George, John: all deceased) was born to the late John and Afia Sarich on October 26, 1927 in Yonkers, NY where she grew up. Martha graduated from Commerce HS and excelled in sports and sewing. Martha married Peter in 1956 at St. Mary's Orthodox Church. Pete passed away in 2006 Prior to his death, they travelled extensively throughout the USA and Europe. In April 1957 they welcomed their twin daughters Karen (Michael Flaherty) and Kim (Deryl Thornton). Martha was a member of the Twins Mother's Club. While raising her daughters she was a Brownie Leader, Martha was also active at St. Mary's parish, participating in the Sr. ACRY, serving as an advisor for the Jr. ACRY as well as sponsoring Sunday coffee hour and helping with the Christmas Fair. Martha was an avid tennis player, taking up the sport in her 40's. She was a member of the Hastings Tennis team for many years. She played tennis up until her late 70's. She loved to swim, do the daily jumble, and challenge anyone, especially her grandchildren, to a game of scrabble. Martha enjoyed viewing the Hudson River especially in the autumn. Martha loved celebrating the holidays with family and cooking and baking with Pete especially for "Russian Christmas." She was proud of her nine grandchildren Kelly, Joseph, Tara, Kevin, Travis, Kyle, Brad, Luke and Lance and adored her great grandchildren Madison, Ryley and Mikey and Grace and a step great granddaughter, Bailey. We would like to thank the staff on the Garden Floor at St. Cabrini Nursing Home, especially Sophie and Olivia for their wonderful care of mom during the past few years Friends may call on Friday from 4PM to 7PM at Hastings Funeral Home, Inc., 15 Spring Street, Hastings-on-Hudson, NY. The funeral mass will be Saturday at 10:00 at St. Mary's Russian Orthodox Church, 485 N. Broadway, Yonkers. Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hastings-on-Hudson. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to St. Mary's Russian Orthodox Church, 485 N. Broadway, Yonkers.
