Please share a memory of Nancy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
D'Lando, NancyNancy D'Lando, a lifelong Yonkers resident, passed away on April 22nd, 2017 at the age of 95. Nancy was born in Yonkers to the late Rose and Dominick Testa on March 12th, 1922. She was the last surviving member of a family of eight children, and was predeceased by sisters Josephine DeMatos, Mary Giuliani and brothers Peter, Falco, John, Anthony and Alphonse Testa. A true child of the Depression, Nancy was forced to quit school at 15 to help support her family after the unexpected death of her father. Over the years, Nancy worked in many of the local sewing shops in Yonkers where she developed lifelong skills as a talented seamstress. Nancy also returned to work many years later and spent 27 years employed by the City of Yonkers as a Senior Citizen Center Supervisor, retiring just this past September. Nancy met the love of her life, Joe D'Lando, quite by chance on New Year's Eve, 1945. They were married on January 12th, 1947 at Mt. Carmel Church in Yonkers and their love and devotion to one another lasted for 56 years until Joe passed away on Sept 9th, 2003. Nancy is survived by her two children, Joseph Jr. and his wife Lynn of Yonkers and Rosemarie and her husband Robert Scully, of Delray Beach, Florida. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Robert (Anne) and Gregory (Carmela) Scully and Melissa, Alyson (Jason Dachman) and Christopher D'Lando and five great-grandchildren. Together they were the most important thing in her life and her love and adoration for them will live on forever. Nancy was always smiling. She came alive around people and loved to dance, laugh, cook and bake, play cards, and most of all spend time with her family whose love in return couldn't possibly equal the infinite love she gave. She will be remembered as a riotously funny and fiercely independent woman who cared about and loved her family more than absolutely anything. She will be so missed. Friends may call at the Sinatra Memorial Home, 601 Yonkers Ave, Yonkers, NY on Wednesday from 2PM to 7PM. The funeral mass will be at St. John the Baptist Church, 670 Yonkers Ave, Yonkers, NY on Thursday at 10:45AM. Interment to follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Yonkers. - See more at: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/lohud/obituary.aspx?n=nancy-dlando&pid=185190968&fhid=27179#sthash.EPchAiS5.dpuf
