Mary Rose DeNardo, 91, a lifelong Yonkers resident, passed away after a short illness on May 19, 2017.
She was born in Italy on November 13, 1925 to Jack and Jennie Innella. She emigrated to America through Ellis Island with her family in 1928. She married the love of her life, Ralph DeNardo, on April 17, 1949.
Mary worked many jobs, including being a teacher's aide for Yonkers Public Schools. She continued her work in education as a SMART mentor at School 22, enriching the lives of the children both academically and creatively. She was the recipient of the Jenkins Award, an educational lifetime achievement award for her volunteer work.
She was a member of the St. Anne Sodality at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church where she was a devoted parishioner and supporter of the church, school and St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
Mary was a creative person with "hands of gold." She enjoyed sewing, knitting and making unique gifts for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Fontenova, her son-in-law, Robert, by her grandchildren, Christopher Fontenova, Jennie and Kai Nybro and Andrea and Billy Hallowell, her four great grandchildren Charlotte, Ava, Henry and Lilyana and her loving niece, Joanne Carbillano.
She is predeceased by her husband Ralph, her son Robert, her sister Rose Carbillano, her brother-in-law Tony Carbillano and her Godson, Anthony Carbillano, as well as her sisters-in-law Mary DeNardo and Virginia Tauber, and her canine companion, Sammi.
She will forever be remembered for her devout faith, transcendent love, ceaseless devotion to her family and everlasting influence that has spanned generations. Her heart and legacy will live on in us all.
