Obituary of Lanson J. Hyatt

Lanson J. Hyatt, 72, of Mount Kisco, NY, died peacefully on July 7, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was born on July 22, 1944 in Mount Kisco, NY to John Wesley & Mary Evelyn (Sniffen) Hyatt. Lanson was a US Army Veteran who served in the Vietnam War. He was a public servant to the community in which he lived.
After graduating high school, Lanson served in the US Army's 58th Transportation Company 27th Transportation Battalion, during the Vietnam War ('66-67). His unit was responsible for transporting personnel and cargo, which supported front line positions. After being honorably discharged, he returned home to Mount Kisco where he became the first Vietnam Veteran to join American Legion Post 136.
Shortly after returning home Lanson met the love of his life, Marilyn (Ascenzi) Hyatt and was married on November 8, 1969.
His brother Ralph R. Hyatt precedes him in death. Lanson is survived by his two sisters; Gloria Ford and Bernice Selmeski; brother John W. Hyatt; daughter Michelle (Videla) Hyatt and husband Marcelo; son Kevin J. Hyatt and wife Veronica; four grandchildren Tyler Videla, Alyssa Videla, Caitlyn Hyatt and Madilyn Hyatt. He will also be greatly missed by his puppy Jax Huey Hyatt.
The Mount Kisco Bottling Company employed Lanson for over 30 years. After that he worked is sales for Canada Dry Bottling Company of New York and Frito Lay. Prior to retiring in 2013, Lanson was a bus driver for 10 years with the Bedford Central School District.
As a resident of Mount Kisco, Lanson coached the Mount Kisco Maroons Junior Football Team and had over 42 years of service as a volunteer fireman with the Union Hook & Ladder and Mount Kisco Rescue Fire Police. In 2004, at the age of 61, he was the most senior member to re-qualify for interior status. Lanson was appointed as the Fire Commissioner for the Mount Kisco Fire Department in 2009 where he served for 5 years. He was also a volunteer for the Village of Mount Kisco's Tree Committee.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Oekler, Cox & Sinatra, 262 E. Main St., Mount Kisco, NY on Monday, July 10, 2017 from 3-9PM. A church service will be held at St. Francis of Assisi, 2 Green St., Mount Kisco, NY on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at 11:30AM.
