William J. Sherry Jr, a resident of Chappaqua, NY since 1958 passed away on August 1, 2017. He was 90 years and died peacefully at home. Mr. Sherry was born in Yonkers, NY on July 6, 1927 to William and Elizabeth Sherry. He is predeceased by his sister Elizabeth, and his loving wife of 54 years, Elizabeth Ann who passed away in 2005.
Mr. Sherry was a graduate of Manhattan Prep and Georgetown University, where he met Betty Ann who was attending Trinity College. They were married in 1950 in Yonkers, then moved to Chappaqua in 1958. He was a parishioner at St. John and St Mary Catholic Church for 59 years, and devoted his life to Betty Ann, the love of his life, and his family.
Mr. Sherry was a prominent Realtor in White Plains, where he built a successful commercial sales and leasing practice. He was formerly a member of the Westchester Country Club and the New York Athletic Club, where he became a skilled billiard and snooker player.
In his youth, he was an accomplished table tennis player, often sharing his skills with his children and grandchildren. He was a longtime avid NY Yankees fan, followed Georgetown basketball, and loved coaching his three sons in Little League baseball. He enjoyed attending his children's sporting events throughout their youth, high school and college years. He was very proud of his grandchildren and showed great interest in all of their accomplishments. Family time was important and many memories were shared at Cooperstown, NY and Spring Lake, NJ.
Mr. Sherry is survived by his 5 loving children: Elizabeth Fisher (Bill) of Katonah, NY; William J. III (Reema) of Nantucket, MA; Robert (Mary Ellen) of Malibu, CA; Susan Barnett (Bill) of Charlotte, NC; and Peter (Faith) of Great Falls, VA., as well as 11 Grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. His two nieces, Fredrica Weeks of Ellington, CT and Ginanne Italiano of Annapolis, MD., also survive him.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on September 9, 2017 at 10 am at the Church of St John and St Mary, 15 Saint John's Place, Chappaqua, NY (small church). Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY.
We would like to thank Lou, who visited regularly and guided our father spiritually for many years. A special thanks to Jacquie his caregiver, who was a true professional and a dear companion to our father for the last two years. We also wish to express our gratitude to Hospice of Northern Westchester and their caring nurses, the Chaplain and especially Curtis. And final thanks to Owen, who was always there for our father and Richie and the Little Store staff who were always so kind to him.
