Joseph C. Lombardo of Yonkers died Monday July 27, 2009 at the age of 87. Born May 4, 1922 to Maria LoBrutto and Cologio (Charles) Lombardo in Harford CT. Raised and educated in Yonkers, he graduated from Commerce H.S. In 1942 he joined the United States Marine Corps. He served with the Second Marine Division in the South Pacific during WWII from 1943 to 1945, participating in the Battle of the Mariana Islands and Okinawa and occupied Nagasaki, Japan. He was discharged as a Corporal in 1946. He graduated from Merchants & Bankers Business College in 1950 and was a member of Teamsters Local 456 for 18 years before marrying Adriana DiMarco in 1961. Mr. Lombardo was the former president of Lombardo & Erling Insurance Agency until 1989, after which he was a consultant to Lombardo-Scotti Agency owned and run by his son and daughter. Mr. Lombardo was former president of the East Yonkers Kiwanis Club, Yonkers Independent Agents Association and Bryn Mawr Senior Center and a former board member of The Bryn Mawr Boys Club. He was a key part of Project Invest, helping Yonkers high school students find jobs in local insurance agencies. Joe was an avid card and pinochle player and loved watching the Yankees. An adored husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. Beloved husband of Adriana Lombardo (nee DiMarco). Devoted father of Philip (Dianne) Lombardo and Carla (Thomas) Baione. Loving grandfather to Philip Jr., Noelle and Matthew Lombardo, Alexa Rachel, Rebecca and Michael Baione. He was predeceased by his sisters Frances Rosato and Elizabeth Lombardo and brother Charles Lombardo. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Friends may call at the Sinatra Memorial Home, 601 Yonkers Ave, Yonkers on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Funeral Mass St. Bartholomew's Church on Friday at 10 AM.
