Joseph Americo, a lifelong resident of Yonkers, passed away on July 31, 2009. He was born in Yonkers, NY on March 19, 1919 to Rose and Nicholas Americo. He was was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Mae Americo. Joseph was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who most enjoyed spending time with his family. Joseph had a special gift of making people laugh. He enjoyed dinners out with his family and especially enjoyed an occasional trip to Burger King. He took great pride in growing the best tomatoes every year. He was an excellent golfer and played until he was 85 years old. He served in the Army during World War II in the 354th Infantry. He was retired from AT&T in 1985, but continued working after his retirement at Dunwoodie Gold Course as a starter. Joseph is survived by four children: Joanne (Americo) DiMarco, Roseanne (Americo) Myers and husband, Roy; Nicholas and wife Betsy, and Joseph (Jo-Jo). Also surviving are his four grandchildren: Jaime (DiMarco) Fitzgerald and husband, Paul; Jennifer (Myers) Castro and husband, Frank; Michael DiMarco and John Myers. In addition he is also survived by four great-grandchildren: Caden Castro, Paul Fitzgerald, Annabelle Castro and Olivia Fitzgerald.
