I’m deeply indebted to Russ D’Anna; am saddened to learn, so late, of his passing. Russ enabled my career, placing me in a position of great responsibility — as he did for so many — as a freshly-minted SVA grad, Twenty-five years later, I found myself back at Scholastic, grateful to discover my old benefactor. As I prepare a new website, a career retrospective, I am recognizing the handful of individuals who shine as beacons, who changed the course of my life. Hearing Russ D’Anna’s shocking, booming declaration “You’ve got a *GOOD!* portfolio, boy” forever in my mind, I find myself here, needing to write this. We have all lost so many; please accept my warmest thoughts.
