John J. D'Ambrosio Jr., MD, 67, a lifelong resident of Yonkers, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2018. Born April 20, 1951 in Yonkers, he was the son of Frances (DiRosario) D'Ambrosio and the late John J. D'Ambrosio Sr. After graduating from Yonkers High School, he received a BS degree in biology, cum laude, from St. John's University and a MD degree from the University of Rome, Italy. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the Veteran's Hospital in Bronx, NY and a fellowship in Gastroenterology at Our Lady of Mercy in Bronx, NY. He started his career in Internal Medicine at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Yonkers. At the time of his death, John had recently retired as acting Medical Director of the Frances Schervier Nursing Home in Bronx, NY. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, John was happiest when surrounded by family. He was a devout Catholic and an active parishioner of St. Ann's Church in Yonkers, where he sang in the choir and, on occasion, played the trumpet for holiday masses. An avid sports fan, he seldom missed an opportunity to cheer on St. John's University basketball, Yankees baseball, and Packers football. His favorite spectator moments, however, included his twins' softball games, youngest daughter's dance recitals, and son's track meets. John could often be found reading mystery novels on his front lawn with the family dogs by his side. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Rebecca (Niklewicz) D'Ambrosio of Yonkers; four children, Susan D'Ambrosio of Yonkers, Jennifer D'Ambrosio of Long Island, Diana Secora and husband, Michael, of New York City, and Stephen D'Ambrosio and wife, Sarah Meeker, of Yonkers; 2 grandchildren, Evan D'Ambrosio and Mariana Secora; mother, Frances (DiRosario) D'Ambrosio of Yonkers; sister Lucille (D'Ambrosio) Speranza and husband, Anthony, of Yonkers; nephews, Nicholas Speranza and Jonathan Speranza of Yonkers; and a number of other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Friends may call on Thursday, May 10th, from 4pm to 8pm and Friday, May 11th, from 4pm to 8pm at Sinatra Memorial Home, 499 Yonkers Avenue, Yonkers, N.Y. 10704. A funeral mass will be held at St. Ann's Church in Yonkers on Saturday, May 12th at 10am. Entombment at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
